Taking Time To Care For Your Watch
By Katie PepperMorgan
It is important to bear in mind that watches need care and regular maintenance in order to ensure their accuracy and to protect their appearance. Each brand of watch and model has its own individual care guidelines. You should always refer to the manufacturer's instruction manual or the warranty that came with your watch.
Caring For Your Watch
The most important thing to remember is to avoid water damage to your watch. You should always check the water resistance and make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions. If water or condensation appears inside the face of your watch, you should have it checked by a watch specialist immediately.
It is extremely important that you avoid leaving your watch in extreme temperatures; extreme heat can shorten the life of the battery inside a quartz watch, and extreme cold can cause a watch to lose or gain time. Although the vast majority of watches are shock resistant to a certain degree, you should avoid any shock or impact to your watch, such as dropping it. After all, your watch is a precision instrument and should be protected as much as possible. Normal shocks caused by sports such as golf or tennis shouldn't cause any damage whatsoever.
Caring For Your Watch Strap
To keep your watch strap looking new for a longer period of time, you should be careful not to wear any perfumes or moisturisers on your wrist. The chemicals in such substances can erode the metal, leather or plastic of your watchstrap. You should also avoid leaving your watch in direct sunlight as this can cause leather and plastic watchstraps to fade.
Metal watchstraps should be cleaned carefully in water, and only if really dirty, and should be cleaned with a soft toothbrush, soap and water. You should rinse the watch with clean water and dry carefully with a soft cloth. If your watch isn't water resistant, avoid getting water on the case.
Protect Your Valuable Watch - Watch Insurance
Depending on the value of your watch, it shouldn't cost too much for watch insurance. Watch insurance is available to cover your valuable items in the event of loss, damage or theft. Depending on the watch insurance policy you choose, there will be a minimum and maximum value in order to meet the criteria of your watch insurance policy.
Remember that watches also make great Christmas presents, so keep this in mind when you head to the shops!
